About Rathi Murthy

Rathi Murthy is the Chief Technology Officer at Varo Bank, the first nationally chartered, all-digital consumer bank in the United States. In this role, she leads the company's end-to-end technology strategy, overseeing the design and development of secure, scalable, and AI-powered digital banking platforms. Her leadership is instrumental in advancing Varo's mission to build inclusive, accessible, and real-time financial solutions for millions of consumers. 

Prior to joining Varo Bank, Rathi served as Chief Technology Officer and President of Expedia Services at Expedia Group, where she was responsible for key technology pillars including artificial intelligence, e-commerce, payments, and customer experience. She helped drive Expedia’s global platform transformation and modernize its core infrastructure.

Before Expedia, Murthy was the CTO at Verizon Media, leading global technology efforts and innovations in 5G. She also held the position of SVP and CTO at Gap Inc., where she developed the digital roadmap for Gap’s portfolio of brands. Her earlier roles include CIO of Enterprise Growth at American Express, and senior leadership positions at eBay, Yahoo, Sun Microsystems, and WebMD.

Murthy’s contributions to the tech industry have earned her multiple accolades, including being named one of the Top 100 Executive Women in Tech to Watch in 2023 by WomenTech Network. She was also honored as a Top Woman in Cloud Innovation in 2014 and as one of the Most Influential Women in Payments in 2015.

In addition to her executive leadership, Murthy is an active angel investor, supporting mission-driven startups focused on fintech, enterprise tech, and social impact. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for PagerDuty and on the Board of Governors at Sri Sri University, where she is dedicated to advancing global education and innovation. Murthy is also an advisor to the University of San Francisco.

Beyond her corporate career, Murthy is an Art of Living teacher, passionate about spreading mindfulness, well-being, and community peace. She holds a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from Santa Clara University.
